Triumph riders finished fourth and fifth at this weekend’s Supersport World Championship round in Assen, The Netherlands, with Britain’s Chaz Davies leading the charge of Daytona 675 entrants.
Davies moved up from ninth on the grid to run fifth in the early laps, but was not quite able to match the pace of the championship’s top three riders: Joan Lascorz, Eugene Laverty and Kenan Sofuoglu. The Triumph rider rode a relatively lonely and incident-free 21 laps and finished fourth after Fabien Foret’s Kawasaki expired. The result consolidates Davies’ fourth place in the championship with four of the 13 races gone.
Frenchman Matthieu Lagrive, a late addition to the Triumph ParkinGO BE1 squad, was able to display his potential on the Daytona 675. Qualifying sixth, the top Triumph rider, Lagrive gave himself a difficult job after failing to get away cleanly from the line. From outside the top 10, Lagrive was able to match Davies’ lap times and cut through to fifth by the chequered flag, just three seconds behind his team leader.
American Jason DiSalvo was the third Triumph rider home, finishing 12th despite coming down with a virus on race day, while team-mate David Salom had a weekend to forget. After impressing in Friday’s practice session he crashed on Saturday and destroyed his bike. He crashed again during the race and slipped back from fifth to seventh in the championship.
Round five of the championship takes place at BE1 Racing’s local Monza circuit in Italy in two weeks’ time.
